Ethical Spring Picks: Whisked Away By A Colorway

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There’s nothing novel about pastel clothes, especially for spring. But to me, they’re like a dark chocolate bar that costs more than dinner at Whole Foods. They pack punch and interest, with no guilt after [Okay, I’m not talking about days when I devour the whole bar or opt for a head-to-toe egg blue look. Those are disastrous].

In moderation, pastels rock year round. Even when it’s 34 degrees, you’ll probably catch me in a periwinkle popover. Fortunately, Austin embases this slightly-sassy, fully-irreverent way of dressing.

I think there’s something in the air here. Maybe it’s the pink skies. Or our close proximity to the west. But the muted hues of the Mojave and soft lines of the Grand Staircase inform the city’s distinct sense of style. It’s not only how Austinites dress, but the way we live.

We imagine expansive, westward road trips. Renting a little RV, windows down, taking in the arid land for hours along I-10. Maybe we make it to Big Bend. Maybe our sights are set on a hip haunt in Marfa, hitting up the faux Prada storefront en route. Whatever the plan, it all comes back to those pastels.

Fine, maybe I got a little whisked away by a colorway. Still, if pastels transcend seasons in Austin, imagine how excited I am that I can celebrate them officially now that it’s Spring elsewhere. Given that you, my dear readers, aren’t all in the 512.

I also have to give a nod to Florida. My love of pastels started there, with roots in the waves and sand. This season, I wanted to style a look that celebrated the past while fully embracing my funky present moment.[/vc_column_text][vc_images_carousel images=”3247,3256,3245″ img_size=”large” speed=”6000″ autoplay=”yes” wrap=”yes” css=”.vc_custom_1521933316552{padding-left: 100px !important;}”][vc_column_text]So I brought the colors of the beach to an uptown street in Austin’s historic West Lynn district. The hero of this look is an easygoing jumpsuit by CONRADO, a brand that fuses retro 70s styles with present-day clean lines to create a fusion of wearables that are designed to translate seamlessly between all the facets of your life. Joys, adventures, work, travels. Do ’em all in this jumpsuit and never change.

The line is made from deadstock fabric, produced in limited quantites and manufactured in a family-owned factory in the owner’s hometown in the Philippines, where she ensures her seamstresses are treated well and paid fair wages. Her collaboration with the artisans also ensures a higher quality that you’d find at any big box retailer — especially one at the mall.
