Feminine & Fair: A Fall Fashion Curation

My ethical fall fashion picks are all about channeling your graceful inner ballerina. This is fair fashion that's oh-so-feminine.

Until it gets really frigid outside, there’s still time to be as delicate as a Danseuse under your coat.

That’s what this fall fashion edit is all about: bringing out your ballerina.

Lately, I’ve felt myself unwittingly rolling my eyes at minimalism (where’s the spark?!) but going full-on-maximalist feels just as lurid (fashion isn’t pulp fiction for a reason!). Instead, my thoughts have been drifting to visions of grace, fluid movement and all things soft and drapey. I’m craving clothes that channel Rodin’s romance, Anna Pavlovna’s moves and LA’s pink sky colors. But rather than take up ballet, I decided to spare myself years of barre work and channel this creative energy into fashion. It’s more exciting to dress the part, right?

I’m particularly smitten with this mix of 12 ethical and sustainable fashion finds, which I’ve picked with intent so they can be worn together or separately. So, voila, if you’re into capsule wardrobes…I just built yours for fall. If a limited wardrobe isn’t your thing, choose a piece or two that you love most and integrate it into your already-established closet.

If you’re digging the prim and proper like me, wear these with aplomb, just like you’d nail a Pirouette.

Change your personality more than Natalie Portman in Black Swan with this 5-in-1 multiway dress by Orgotton. Go full-on evening gown or rock this as a T-shirt-come-dress for a more laid-back look. And what about the brand’s ethical roster? This dress is made in the USA (less than 2% of garments are!) with attention to eco-materials. The gals behind Orgotton also use seeded paper for their hangtags, so you can plant wildflowers from this dress too. Maybe I should have said 6-in-1?

Purse & Clutch is a brand that’s achieved one of the most difficult tasks in artisan fashion – adapting heritage craftsmanship for today’s modern and ephemeral tastes. A vital part of this is careful attention to detail, or, as the owner likes to say, “choosing to care how things are made.” This bag is from the brand’s Ethiopia collection. Learn the story of the artisans who made it and how it’s providing employment where there’s previously been a void.
