I’ve been streamlining my life – and wardrobe – lately. Anything that fits into the fashion realm of functionality I’ve been gobbling up. Naturally, I got excited about the buzz around sneakers for Spring. Hopefully, you are excited too, and you can always check out somewhere like vessifootwear.com if you’re in the market for some …
Down Under Fashion’s Radar: Australian Designers
Cameo – Shakuhachi – Camilla and Marc – Maticevski – Karla Spetic – Zimmerman These are the cult of new designers flying under fashion’s radar in the land of Oz. They don’t mirror looks from the runway or mimic stodgy fashion rules. Aussies have been are changing up the game with their own brand of streetwear. …
The Splurge Test
I was considering dropping boo koo bucks on wear-with-everything flats this weekend –however – I exercised my temptation muscles. Lately, I’ve adopted a useful test for judging whether a fashion splurge is worth the investment. Lux items are in abundance. My credit limit is in short supply. I save myself money and strife by adhering …
Upend The Trend: Canary Yellow
The canary that took flight at the Golden Globes on Sunday night was a breed of color both unexpectedly flattering and decidedly eye-catching.
In case you opted out of E! coverage in the absence of Joan Rivers (I’m just as disgruntled as you about the snapchats from the red carpet), see the much lauded and starkly similar column silhouettes that Naomi Watts and Leslie Mann sported in Canary Yellow.
Nowadays trends infiltrate mass retailers faster via the red carpet than the traditional, runway show route. If Sunday was any indication, Canary Yellow will trickle down en masse faster than you can retire your cropped mohair sweater circa fall ’14.

Feature: 2015 Wardrobe Resolve
I don’t advocate weighty changes in the New Year. I try to constantly reevaluate and set doable goals for myself. Trust me, your sanity will thank you if you follow suit and avoid the shock and awe of a monumental life change that comes with intense resolutions. You have my full permission to axe your plan to forgo food (hell to the no, Vogue) or turn yourself into a hermit with an online calculator that avows to balance your budget, or else.
In 2015 I’m making one, focused lifestyle goal of doing less, but better and making one ethical pledge to eat vegetarian for 30 days. It might not be glamorous when the hanger kicks in, but I’m taking it seriously for a short duration. In February, my Ron Swanson palate will be back with a vengance.
I did, however, make a hard-hitting set of wardrobe resolutions that I wanted to share with you.
This year I resolve to…
- Purchase with patience
- Focus on new additions to my closet where I get the most bang for my buck. That means focusing more on practical things like: a tailored fit, flattering color for my skin tone, real materials (stop wasting my money on piles of polyurethane) and online reviews. For example, a friend of mine managed to find a gorgeous backpack after reading some reviews on BuyersImpact.co.uk. Above all, reading online reviews is a fantastic way to make sure that you are spending your money wisely on products that will stand the test of time.
- This will require more time upfront but I’m hoping I will be rewarded with more lasting pieces. Besides, sustainability has to come first and I am fed up with things not lasting as long as they should. Plus, it so easy to get online and read a few reviews nowadays that there really are no excuses.
- Everlane might help.
- Plan accordingly
- Use my practical new backpack for efficiency. Madewell.
- Stop being in denial of the weather (i.e. I will purchase an umbrella).
- Master the layering look. Olivia Palermo.
- Invest in fashion
- There is a TON of untapped opportunity in the fashion sector as it pertains to data, mobile technology and scalability. I’d like to use some knowledge I have to invest in companies that are paving the way for innovation.
- My predictions: Tapping into unworn items in women’s closets, opening access and driving down costs of designer goods from across the globe, more data driving inventory strategy, less brick and mortar shopping and continued growth in subscription services.
- Read BoF.
- Grow The Peahen
- I’m seeking reader feedback!
- Would you like see more outfit posts from me?
- I’d like your ideas to keep my content evolving. What do you love and what can I ditch?

Feature: A Move from Modern
It’s pre-fall people! I don’t know how serious we can take it as a season that determines trends, but overall I’m sensing big (and needed) a genre shift. Style is being cast once again on a canvas of romanticism, somberness and realism – and it’s trickling over to fashion backdrops and runways. Remember last season’s over-the-top grocery isle Chanel show? Carb couture was once a thing. Ya – those days are gone as quick as Lagerfield can exclaim Fini at the end of his show.
The minimal, modern trend has been running rampant for quite a stretch. We’re long overdue for a damn floral print. It finally seems like the fashion world is following suit. The trend cropped up first in an art collaboration between Gucci and Canadian realist painter Kris Knight. The resort collection casts discernible prints on refined silhouettes for the ultimate fashion renaissance.
Pre-fall followed suit. The trend picked up momentum with designers choosing to set their models on backdrops that rivaled their clothing in visual appeal. BCBG, Erdem, Sonya Rykiel and Alice + Olivia (clockwise from top left) showcased renaissance-esque creations on backgrounds with artistic intention.
Ever noticed why some fashion photos skyrocket to glossy publication and social infamy? It all boils down to the setup. And the setup these days looks like a painting pulled right from the walls of the Louvre.
